Pieces and Peaches

For the past 18 years, my sister & I have raised a show herd of Dairy Goats. Right now, our herd is pretty small (about 30-40 head). Over the years, we have worked our way up the 'show chain' so that we are now showing on a National level. We truly enjoy the animals as well as there products. Our goats share the pasture with some of our horses and, right now, they are sharing a common fence line with our new horse, named 'Pieces'.

The more I get to know Pieces, the more I am finding that she is quite the character.
When she first arrived at our farm and had gotten over the excitement of exploring her pasture, she noticed a small goat kid that had jumped through the fence into her pasture. She watched it for a short while and then approached it with all of the curiosity of a toddler. After the greeting the small thing and sniffing noses she became enraptured with the kid and presided to follow it around the pasture. The kid ( named peaches) is rather used to horses and so she just kept going on her merry little way, grazing here and there. Pieces kept right behind her, examining her every move; When Peach stopped to graze, so did Pieces. When Peach turned right, Pieces turned right and so, this comical scene of the kid leading the horse around the pasture proceeded for about 5 minuets or so when things really got hilarious! Peach, (hearing her Mom call her) set off kicking up her heals skipping and jumping her way back to her own pasture. Pieces in turn, reared with excitement and went bucking after her little friend only to stop short at the fence to say good bye to her new buddy. As she turned around to leave she noticed that there was not only one little goat over the fence-line, but 35 little goats. All of them staring, right, at, her! At this horrific sight, Pieces froze on the spot, snorting and blowing at the mini aliens. Keeping her "bambi on ice" stance, she continued to snort and blow at them as if she was almost trying to blow them away. When she finally remembered how to use her legs, she flew across to the other side of the pasture and remained "in the corner" a few minuets until Peach, (who loves horses) snuck back through the fence, and went skipping over to Pieces. An hour passed and the two friends stayed side by side, both roaming about their pasture being rather happy with one another's company. The more time that passed, the more that Pieces realized that the "little others" would not eat her, and so, she finally became okay with the fact that she shares a conmen fence with them.

Now, I’m not the best at typing out stories. But, in person Pieces' body language with the little goat kid was simply hilarious! It’s too bad I did not catch it on tape! Other than the fact that she came face to face with aliens from Mars, she settled in just fine.
